Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. The moso bamboo exhibits an extremely rapid growth rate during the first few years of its life cycle. Under optimal conditions, moso bamboo can grow up to 1 metre in 24 hours, which is about 4 cm per hour.
Moso bamboo usually reaches maturity in the third to fifth year after planting for moderate harvesting, and its lifespan is usually 60 to 100 years. At the end of its life cycle, the moso bamboo flowers, sets seed and eventually dies. However, due to the presence of bamboo rhizomes (underground stems), new seedlings will grow again, allowing the bamboo forest to regenerate itself, a characteristic that makes moso bamboo a truly sustainable and ecologically beneficial source!
